Mark Benton will play Edna Turnblad in a touring production of the musical Hairspray, which will open at the Lowry Theatre in Salford next week. Mark Benton, pictured here in The Comedians at the Lyric Theatre, will join the UK tour of Hairspray, after his present commitments are complete.

Aberdeen Performing Arts has won more than £43,000 from the Lottery Fund. Aberdeen Performing Arts’ creative learning arm has received the money to provide theatre activities for 140 young people in the city, aged from eight to eleven.

An “extras” agency’s advertising claims were misleading

     

An “extras” casting agency that was formed in 2009, that has been claiming that it has provided extras to television series such as Hollyoaks, and Emmerdale for more than a decade, has been ordered to amend its “misleading” website information. The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that Extra Factory must not exaggerate their experience as a company and not imply they supplied people to production companies if they did not have evidence to support that.

Lebanon is first Arab country to air dance show

     

Lebanon has become the first Arab country to broadcast the hugely popular TV show Dancing with the Stars. Since the BBC originally aired Strictly Come Dancing in 2004, it has been licensed in 42 countries, including the US and Australia, and was named the world’s most successful reality TV format by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010.

A recent Amanda Palmer video has been age-restricted by YouTube. She is certainly no stranger to controversy, so perhaps we shouldn't be shocked that Amanda's video has fallen foul of the video police. The artful promo for her single, Want It Back, which hit YouTube not too long ago, features a naked Palmer lying in bed as the lyrics of the song are scrawled across her body in time to the tune.
